Plant Trellis For Small Space Vertical Gardening
Using a plant trellis for small space vertical gardening is key to maximizing green space. Many people turn to traditional trellises for climbing vines, flowers and vegetables to maximize vertical space to its fullest benefit.
However, finding the right size trellis for a small space can be an issue. We often run into issues finding a narrow trellis that is sturdy and tall enough to sufficiently use the vertical space available. This can also be an issue for growing vining plants in containers, where you have limited width but plenty of vertical space. How about a trellis to cover a downspout , lamp post or that utility pole?
Finding narrow trellises
So began my search for narrow trellises that also provide sufficient height for the job. Those below have small footprints (no more than 25″) but plenty of height.
Use these trellises to support ornamental or edible- snap pea, vegetables, annual vines, or perennial vines. Use in containers, flower beds or against structures. Support can be placed in any area of the home, yard, porch, patio, or garden.
Things to consider when selecting a trellis
Choose supports that are sturdy enough for the vine you want to grow. A vine that will grow beyond the size or strength of the trellis may cause the trellis to fall over.
Should the trellis be given extra support? You may want to consider using brackets to secure the trellis against structures. Also consider using stakes at the base to provide extra stability to the trellis.
Consider if the trellis is just meant to support the plant or serve as a decorative piece too? Choose the appropriate trellis and vine to serve your purpose.
